PM Modi Unveils Mega Gift for Uttar Pradesh in Kanpur

Kanpur — In a major push towards infrastructure and energy development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹47,600 crore in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The announcement marks one of the most significant investment drives in the state this year.

Among the 15 large-scale development projects launched, the Prime Minister inaugurated the new underground stretch of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, extending from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central. The new section includes five underground stations: Chunniganj, Bada Chauraha, Naveen Market, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central.

This metro extension is expected to improve urban connectivity by directly linking major landmarks such as Lal Imli, Z Square Mall, Green Park Stadium, Parade Ground, Book Market, and Somdutt Plaza. According to officials, nine stations are already operational from IIT-Kanpur to Motijheel, and the new addition will further enhance the ease, speed, and safety of commuting in the city.

Addressing a large gathering, PM Modi said, “These projects represent our commitment to transforming Uttar Pradesh into a modern, connected, and empowered state. Kanpur, with its rich industrial legacy, is now stepping into a future of smart infrastructure.”

Boost to Power Infrastructure

The Prime Minister also inaugurated a 660-MW power unit in Ghatampur and a thermal power project in Panki. These facilities are designed to ensure stable and sufficient electricity supply for Uttar Pradesh as well as neighboring states, reducing dependency on erratic energy grids and promoting industrial development.

Rail Connectivity Enhanced

In addition to metro and power projects, PM Modi inaugurated two new railway bridges connecting Panki Energy Plant to Kalyanpur, further easing logistics and freight movement in the region. These are expected to play a key role in supporting both industrial freight and regional railway traffic.

A Vision for Progress

With this mega rollout of infrastructure and energy projects, the Prime Minister reiterated his government’s focus on “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) and regional empowerment. The massive investment also aligns with the Centre’s broader goal of making tier-2 cities like Kanpur engines of economic growth and modern urban development.

The people of Kanpur welcomed the announcement with enthusiasm, hopeful that these upgrades would not only ease their daily commute and boost employment but also attract further investment in the city.
